Overview of Accessibility

My name is Hannah Galloway and my EDST 220 blog will be discussing the issue of “Accessibility: The Digital Divide.”
The Digital divide can be described as “division between those who have access to ICT and are using it effectively, and those who do not” (Overview of the Digital Divide). ICT stands for Information and Communications Technology such as Internet. More and more things are solely posted on the web including job applications, banking, and government programs such as Social Security. Are people who do not have access to Internet supposed to just miss out on the opportunities? Another part of the Digital Divide is effective use, which is “the capacity and opportunity to successfully integrate ICTs into the accomplishment of self or collaboratively identified goals” (Growing Pains Blog). Many people, especially young people, are not using internet to its fullest potential.
They spend hours on chat rooms or searching Facebook, which is not the effective use of technology. The Digital Divide is a growing problem that should be looked into more closely.
